. .

We had our country strategy in Kampala on the 18/19th, so all the program managers from Uganda (that is, the Northern region and Karamoja) and Heads of Bases and people in charge in the Kampala office gathered together for one day of presentations and discussions. Overall, it was a good exercise, and we have our work cut out for us.

It was suggested that afterwards, those not based in Kampala (Northern and Karamoja) go on a little weekend trip somewhere. So two vehicles and 10 people decided to go to Sipi Falls in Eastern Uganda for the weekend. We drove from Kampala, but after a late, late long, fun, dancing-filled night in Kampala, none of us were moving very fast for the Friday departure. Our "late" time of 11am got pushed to 2:00, so when we finally got on the road, and finally started feeling not-as-bad, we realized there was no way we were going to make it before the security time (6:30) for stopping movement.

We stopped for the night in Mbale, just one hour short of Sipi Falls, and chose the Mt. Elgon Hotel. Whew, were we in for a treat! We had no idea this was the best place in town, and after the two Heads of Region talked the manager in giving us $25 a night, free breakfast and free spa, we all headed to the sauna/steam room/hot tub/pool and relaxed for the night. Not expected, but great!
