Stitch Fix Review #2

WHAT IS STITCH FIX?

Here's my second Stitch Fix review. You can find my first review here. This is a little different than my regular posts - a newcomer to DC, I needed some nice clothes! I signed up for Stitch Fix (referral link - if you use it, I get $25 in credit!): basically, you fill out a "style" profile, link it to a Pinterest page for clothes that match your style, and wait, semi-patiently. A box shows up at the doorstep with 5 pieces, hopefully matching your style. It's a personal stylist so I don't have to shop, and there might be pieces that I wouldn't have necessarily grabbed. I have 3 days to decide what I want to keep, and send back what I don't like. They charge a $20 styling fee that gets applied to anything you keep, and if you keep all 5 pieces, you get a 25% discount. Yep. It's pretty straight forward, and fun.

What was so great about this fix was that for every referal who uses my link, I get a $25 credit, and two, TWO wonderful people signed up, so I had $50 in credit (thanks Liz and Leanne!).

To set the scene, I was just back from South Sudan, where grungy, ill-fitting clothes were the norm and you never really dressed up. Back in DC, the weather was cool (actually very hot for June-in-DC-standards, but much more moderate and acceptable than South Sudan!) and I was looking forward to some nice clothes again. Enter brown and blue box:

You excitedly open the box and there's a little card:

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?

So remember, I had $50 in credit. $20 of that goes to the styling fee, and the rest can be applied to anything I buy. On to the reviews (yes, that is my kitty hanging out with me):

Pomelo Missy Polka Dot Tab-Sleeve Blouse - $5
Pomelo Missy Polka Dot Tab-Sleeve Blouse: When I pulled this out of the box, I was excited. I love mint and I love polka dots. This blouse was flowy, comfortable, and could be wore casual or dressed up. The price was high, though, and regrettably, I decided not to keep it. Sent back.

Collective Concepts Eveline Kaleidoscope Print Tie-Neck Blouse - $58
Collective Concepts Eveline Kaleidoscope Print Tie-Neck Blouse: This blouse is soft, comfortable, and flattering. I really liked the print - it's actually a navy with the pinks and greens. The back is longer than the front, good for tucking. The neckline is a little weird - a bit high and has a strange tie. Overall though, I liked this a lot. Kept.

Mystree Meridian Swiss Dot Lace Detail Blouse - $54
Mystree Meridian Swiss Dot Lace Detail Blouse: Wow. This one was bad. I'm not really sure why, but the colors were weird in this blouse - pale pink (almost nude), coral and turquoise. It was completely sheer, though they did send a cami to wear with it. I didn't have to think about this one. Sent back.

Mak Jaclynn 3/4 Sleeve Button Up Cardigan - $38
Mak Jaclynn 3/4 Sleeve Button Up Cardigan: I was surprised with this one. My Pinterest board is colorful, full of patterns, and anything but white. This cardigan was simple, and very, very soft. I spent a long time debating on this one - with the $30 credit I had available, it seemed a little easier to justify...BUT I had just come from a clothing swap, and got a nearly identical cardigan (not as soft and shorter sleeves), but why not keep the free one? Sent back.

Kensie Jeans Sophia Ankle Length Skinny Jean - $78
Kensie Jeans Sophia Ankle Length Skinny Jean: These jeans were great. Good amount of stretch, the right length (I didn't have to hem 6" off!), and flattering. I was looking for a nice pair of dark skinnies. In the end, however, I decided to send them back. It's really hard for me to justify spending nearly $80 on a pair of jeans. I'm just a thrift store kinda girl I guess. Sent back.

In the end, I only kept one item, the Kaleidoscope blouse. After the $20 styling fee was deducted, and the remaining $30 from my referral credit, this baby only cost me $8! Yep, eight bucks! While I only kept one of the five items, I really enjoyed my Stitch Fix, and am looking forward to the next one!
