Bled, Slovenia

We took a bus from Venice to Villach, Austria, where we stayed the night (and T had an amazing steak and I had truffle gnocci), then continued on by train to Bled, Slovenia. What a beautiful town. It's situated on a mountain lake, and with the changing colors of fall, the views made for a stunning backdrop (if you ever find yourself in or near Slovenia, Bled is definitely worth the trip). There is an ominous castle perched overlooking the lake, and a small island in the middle has been taken over by a church. The hiking, the scenery, and the fresh air was wonderful.

Bled, Slovenia

So many stairs! And this didn't even go all the way to the top.

Vintgar Gorge
We borrowed bikes from our guesthouse and headed up the valley to Vintgar Gorge. The gorge is cut by the Radovna River, and remained mostly unexplored until the 1890s, when wooden observation decks and walkways were built. I think some of those walkways we walked on were the originals, teetering over the river! Stunningly beautiful and powerful, the gorge ends at the Pod Slap, or Pod Waterfall.

Savica Waterfall, Bohinjsko
The next day we took the 45 minute bus ride to Bohinjsko Lake to hike up to the Savica Waterfall. And the fall colors! So beautiful to see the mountains covered in changing leaves. It felt like a Minnesota fall in the middle of the Colorado mountains.
It's fall!
Beautiful Bled! If you're anywhere nearby, visit!
